• A Look on Diet Fitness

Many people nowadays are very much conscious about their own health and fitness. In addition to that, these people, and many others as well, are now having that desire to sculpt their bodies to ahieve that magazine-cover look. As a result, gyms, health spas and other fitness centers have proliferated all over to cater to the needs of the fitness buffs and afficionados.
Even on television exercise machines, weight loss products, and other paraphernalia to improve fitness have more or less gained control over the airwaves and made their way into the households. But exerise is not the only way to build that body beautiful. It also entails certain amount of responsibility on the foods one chooses to eat. Being healthy and fit requires one to observe diet fitness.

Diet fitness is as essential as exercise itself. Diet for fitness provides the essential nutrition one needs to restore worn-out muscles and for healthy growth. Diet fitness should never be taken for granted. With the popularity of keeping fit, many different views, methods, programs and dieting strategies have been formulated by many professionals. Among these are high carb diets and high fat diets. Whih one is more effective and which one should one choose to follow?

First thing to know would be the fundamental differences between these two diet approaches. As the name implies, high carb diets concentrates on taking in carbohydrate-rich foods while high fat diets endorses fat-rich foods. High carb diets are utilized to glycogen stored in the liver and muscles. Glycogen is a glucose complex that provides large amounts of energy ready for use in anaerobic exercises.

Fats, on the other hand, is well-nown for being the richest source of calories. It actually contains 2.5 times more calories than carbohydrates and proteins alike. Studies also show that it takes the body 24 calories to metabolize carbohydrates while it only takes 3 to burn down fat. So which one to follow? A person can follow a high carb and low fat fitness diet or the other way around. It is absolutely not recommended to follow both at the same time; unless of course if you want to gain body fat.

But then diet fitness is not all about losing fat, one must also consider his diet in order to keep fat away. Research shows that sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved on a diet which suits the individual food preferences, lifestyle, medical profile and satiety signals.

Diet programs all over can help you shed off excess pounds, but only one diet can help you stay sexy, and it is the one that satisfies you most. Other important aspects of having a fit diet are moderation, balance and variation. One must be careful not to leave out important nutrients and other substances necessary for healthy body functioning. health organizations are clear about the amounts of nutrients an individual should have in the body.

Low fat high carbs, high carbs low fat; the question is not which diet program will work out but which is it that will work for you. Striving for a sexy and healthy body does not have to burden an individual, diet fitness does not have to mean sticking to the same kind of food for life. One may even try to be adventurous and try out new foods out there. Who knows? one may even discover spinach interesting.

  • Quick and Easy Lunches for the Cooking Challenged

Comments Off on Quick and Easy Lunches for the Cooking Challenged
    April 19, 2021 /  Handiwork

Let’s face it, cooking is not a top priority in the lives of every man, woman, or child on the planet. In fact, far too people have made learning to cook a priority in their lives. This means that we often exist on convenience foods and boxed mixes rather than taking the effort to prepare healthy meals for our families and our own personal enjoyment.

The same holds true for lunches when we often resort to a can of soup or box of macaroni and cheese or some other such product rather than putting our creative efforts into making a quick and easy yet delicious lunch. You will see many ideas in this article and the hope is that these ideas will not only get you off to a great start for ending the lunch rut we all seem to find ourselves in at some time or another but also to try new things on your own.

First of all, not all great lunches require actual cooking in order to prepare. Some of them will require the use of the microwave and some of them will need to be cooked or at least prepared before hand and reheated. The choices are virtually limitless once you understand the creative concept that must be in place. You should also find that many of these ideas are so simple you will wonder why on earth you have never thought of them. I certainly hope that some of these ideas will become main features within your own home.

Lettuce wraps. These mike delightfully delicious lunch treats and the filling can be prepared ahead of time, which leaves only reheating the filling and wrapping when you’re ready to eat. This is a fun lunch to share with your little ones and it teaches them that lettuce is much more versatile than people often give it credit for being. Some people choose to go with a teriyaki inspired filling; my family likes taco inspired fillings for our lettuce rolls. You are perfectly free to come up with a favorite filling of your very own.

Try sandwiches with different breads. Believe it or not, my children love trying new things. It’s a rare trait for which I am extremely grateful. Believe me I understand all too well how fortunate I am. My youngest however, has a little difficulty with thick or crusty bread. Her favorite sandwich choice has become Hawaiian sweet rolls. We put the meat, cheese, mustard, and pickle in her roll as if it were a bun and she’s thrilled. Other great ideas include hollowing out crusty rolls and filling them with roast beef and cheddar. You can broil this in your oven for a few minutes for a rare sandwich treat. The cooking part is very minimal and you do not have to have in depth knowledge of anything to prepare or enjoy these simple treats. Other great bread ideas include croissants with ham and cheese or chicken salad, taco pitas (another great favorite in our household), and paninis (this works really well if you have a George Foreman grill or a panini press).

While this is by no means the end all be all guide to cooking quick and easy lunches it is good food for thought. The hope is that this will get your own creative juices flowing so that you can prepare wonderful lunches for your family without needing to do too terribly much heavy cooking in the process.

  • Why Natural Organic Foods Are Good For Your Health

Comments Off on Why Natural Organic Foods Are Good For Your Health
    April 18, 2021 /  Food

Whilst it might appear like a new trend, organic food has really been around for a lot longer than the foods that we’re accustomed to eating. This is food that is grown and nurtured in a natural manner, so as not to upset the growing development or the person who’s eating it. But with more and more labels claiming to be ‘natural’ as well as ‘organic,’ it can become confusing when you’re in a grocery store aisle. Then when you see that the prices are somewhat higher than ‘normal’ foods, you may doubt if it’s even worth a second look.

    What defines natural food?

Natural foods are defined as foods that do not endure any chemical processing, either in the growing procedure or in the harvesting procedure. These are foods that do not contain pesticides or insecticides, fertilizers as well as other toxins.

If you observe organic foods that are pre-packaged, this means that each of the components is also processed using organic methods. Though, you need to look for packages that include the phrase ‘100%’ or ‘certified’ organic in order to know that all of the ingredients are organic. If a package just includes the now generic term of organic, it can signify that only a percentage of the ingredients are processed in this method.

    Why decide on natural foods?

Many people are turned off by the elevated costs that organic foods appears to have. And with the lessened processing, these costs don’t seem justified. However, the reason behind the somewhat higher prices is that these are farms that cannot manufacture as much yield as those that make use of chemical substances. Lots of fertilizers will allow farms to cultivate many more stalks of corn, for example.

But when you take away this fertilizer to cultivate organic corn, you may only obtain half as much – and in doing so, the farmer needs to charge more. There are as well some restrictions as to how much money these smaller and sometimes family run farms get from government sources. Without the additional monetary help, these farms may not make any profits without increasing their overall prices.

In selecting natural foods, you are also supporting local farmers (in the majority of cases) that are growing healthier products. The food that you consume should not contain added toxins as well as chemicals. A number of scientific studies have shown that eating large quantities of these kinds of substances can lead to a multitude of problems – some cancers, diseases, as well as other health problems.

The toxins can build up within your body and start to damage healthy cells. And this is no wonder, considering nature never intended for us to eat chemical substances that have been added to our foods. In addition, a lot of people are sensitive to these kinds of chemical substances, so consuming organic food allows them to avoid any harmful reactions they may have otherwise.

  • Introduction to Fitness Nutrition

Comments Off on Introduction to Fitness Nutrition
    April 15, 2021 /  Fitness

Merely knowing what food to eat, those that would ensure your body receives the nutrients it needs, is not enough to achieve a fit and healthy body. Diet could never be without exercise, they are a pair simply referred to as fitness nutrition, the combination of both. Those that exercise more, like athletes, require more food and nutrients so their body could keep up with all the physical activities they go through.

Carbohydrates, although mistakenly avoided by people on diets, are actually beneficial especially if you undertake physical activities or sports like sprinting, basketball of playing badminton. This is because these “carbs” produce the blood sugar in the body, this blood sugar which is more commonly known as glucose is stored as glycogen in the muscles. Glycogen provides the energy a person needs to perform such activities. Without glucose, a person can easily feel exhausted and out of breath. Some diet junkies think that they “sweat off the fat” in their body, but in reality, they sweat off the glycogen first and then the fat.

While carbohydrates are important for quick exercises, fats are in fact needed by the body when doing long endurance exercises like cycling, or running marathons. A healthy person does not actually have zero fat in their body; they have fat and in fact use them as a source of energy during their exercises. Without fat, your body tends to use the energy stored in the proteins. This is not ideal since the body needs these proteins to repair the muscles instead.

Vitamins and minerals, although not energy producers, are important for other health functions. They provide the calcium that strengthens the bones, the iron that helps in transporting oxygen throughout the body, and some minerals like potassium help in the regulation of water in the body during rigorous workouts.

Knowledge regarding fitness nutrition is important to determine what specific food to eat or drink before you deal with your exercise routine. About 3-6 hours before you exercise, it is advisable that you consume a full healthy meal. A few hours before actually exercising, you should consume food that is rich in carbohydrates, or better yet complex carbohydrates. This food type can provide a large amount of carbohydrate which can provide for more energy during your activities. Never ever forget to drink water before, during and after your exercise. Sweating causes the water in the body to evaporate. An individual must replace this lost fluid at once to prevent dehydration.

Keep in mind that too little or too much exercise can be bad. Be specific with your exercise regime; make sure it fits the type of lifestyle you lead. If you are already tired from work all day, try exercises which are not so intense like short jogs. Always eat a balanced diet; after all it is the other half of fitness nutrition. Never ever skip meals to ensure that your body is well nourished and drink lots of water and fluid. This ensures that the body stays in tip-top shape even if you are working out.

  • Basic Tips When Creating and Executing a Fitness Guide

Comments Off on Basic Tips When Creating and Executing a Fitness Guide
    April 11, 2021 /  Fitness

We live in a world where getting fit is becoming more and more desirable. There are gym advertisements every which way you look and advertisements for work out videos and weight loss books in every magazine you pick up. However, despite the popularity of working out, it will not happen overnight. Instead of subscribing to a fad workout or diet, you should develop a fitness guide that will keep you fit and healthy for a lifetime rather than for a few weeks. Part of any fitness guide is consistency and diversity. The following are some tips to help you develop and stick with a fitness guide.

    Start Slow

If you are new to working out, then you need to start slow. This is not just because your endurance will be lower than other folks, but it is because if you do too much too soon, you risk seriously injuring yourself. Thus, do not expect to run a marathon in the first months of using your fitness guide. Instead, you want to build up your strength and endurance. Try new activities and monitor the affects on your body. You should try to do small repetitions of different exercises and work your way up when it comes to swimming laps or running.

    Make Long- and Short-Term Goals

Next, when developing your fitness guide, it is important to really make goals that are both long- and short-term. Having goals will help you stay motivated. This is why it is so important to have short-term goals. The more goals you reach, the more likely it is that you will feel inspired to keep at your fitness guide and to change the way you live your life. Long-term goals are great too because you will be reminded of these when you reach your short-term goals.

Similarly, when you reach a goal, you should celebrate. This does not mean going out for a milkshake or eating a tub of ice cream in one sitting. Instead, do something that helps you stay with your fitness guide. Buy some new gym clothes, book a trip to an exotic location, buy books to help you understand your body, and treat yourself to a massage. This way, you can stay motivated and will have things that help your overall health.

    Learn Proper Form

When it comes to a fitness guide, quality and not quantity matters: you need to do the exercises right or they will not be effective. Thus, instead of racing your way through crunches, make every single one count. Watch videos and talk to experts so that you learn how to do exercises properly. This is not only so that your exercises are effective but also so that you protect yourself from harm. If you are not lifting weights correctly, you risk severely hurting yourself. If you are hurt, you will not only be in pain but will have to curb much of your fitness guide.

Similarly, always stretch before any workout. This will make your fitness guide that much successful. This way, you can be sure that your muscles are ready for what’s to come, and you can avoid injury.

    Create a Well-Rounded Guide

Lastly, when developing and executing a fitness guide, you need to make sure that you tackle all areas of your body. You want to do more than run. Instead, make your fitness guide as diverse and all-inclusive as possible. Include weight lifting of the arms and legs, work on your abdominal area with crunches and similar exercises, and get your heart rate up with swimming or running. Yoga is a great way to stay fit and to keep you limber and flexible. This way, you can be sure you are working your whole body and improving your overall health.

  • The History Of Coffee

Comments Off on The History Of Coffee
    April 9, 2021 /  Food

Coffee – THE Drink of Choice

Did you know coffee is the most consumed beverage in the world. How did coffee get this ranking? What country first figured out coffee was safe for consumption? When was the first drink of coffee prepared? Where did the first coffee shop come in being?
There are many questions about the starting point of drinking coffee. It has been so long ago no one really knows all the facts. But, one thing is for sure, coffee is the most consumed beverage on the planet.

    The Beginning of Coffee

It looks as if the first trace came out of Abyssinia and was also sporadically in the vicinity of the Red Sea around seven hundred AD. Along with these people, other Africans of the same period also have a history of using the coffee berry pulp for more than one occasion like rituals and even for health.

Coffee began to get more attention when the Arabs began cultivating it in their peninsulas around eleven hundred AD. It is speculated that trade ships brought the coffee their way. The Arabs started making a drink that became quite popular called gahwa— meaning to prevent sleep. Roasting and boiling the bean was how they made this drink. It became so popular among the Arabs that they made it their signature Arabian wine and it was used a lot during rituals.

After the coffee bean was found to be a great wine and a medicine, someone discovered in Arabia that you could also make a different dark, delicious drink out of the beans, this happened somewhere around twelve hundred AD. After that it didn’t take long and everyone in Arabia was drinking coffee. Everywhere these people traveled the coffee went with them. It made its way around to India, North Africa, the eastern Mediterranean, and was then cultivated to a great extent in Yemen around fourteen hundred AD.

Other countries would have gladly welcomed these beans if only the Arabs had let them. The Arabs killed the seed-germ making sure no one else could grow the coffee if taken elsewhere. Heavily guarding their plants, Yemen is where the main source of coffee stayed for several hundred years. Even with their efforts, the beans were eventually smuggled out by pilgrims and travelers.

    Coffee Shops Appear

Around 1475 the first coffee shop opens in Constantinople called Kiv Han two years after coffee was introduced to Turkey, in 1554 two coffee houses open there. People came pouring in to socialize, listen to music, play games and of course drink coffee. Some often called these places in Turkey the “school of the wise”, because you could learn so much by just visiting the coffee house and listening to conversations.
In the sixteen hundreds coffee enters Europe through the port of Venice. The Turkish warriors also brought the drink to Balkans, Spain, and North Africa. Not too much later the first coffee house opens in Italy.

There were plenty of people also trying to ban coffee. Such as Khair Beg a governor of Mecca who was executed and Grand Vizir of the Ottoman Empire who successfully closed down many coffee houses in Turkey. Thankfully not everyone thought this way.

    Coffee Tips Arrive

In the early sixteen hundreds coffee is presented to the New World by man named John Smith. Later in that century, the first coffee house opens in England. Coffee houses or “penny universities” charged a penny for admission and for a cup of coffee. The word “TIPS” (for service) has it’s origin from an English coffee house.

Early in the 17th century, Edward Lloyd’s coffee house opens in England. The Dutch became the first to commercially transport coffee. The first Parisian café opens in 1713 and King Louis XIV is presented with a lovely coffee tree. Sugar is first used as an addition to coffee in his court.

    The America’s Have Coffee

Coffee plants were introduced in the Americas for development. By close to the end of the seventeen hundreds, 1,920 million plants are grown on the island.

Evidently the eighteen hundreds were spent trying to find better methods to make coffee.

The Coffee “Brew” in the 20th Century

New methods to help brewing coffee start popping up everywhere. The first commercial espresso machine is developed in Italy. Melitta Bentz makes a filter using blotting paper. Dr. Ernest Lily manufactures the first automatic espresso machine. The Nestle Company invents Nescafe instant coffee. Achilles Gaggia perfects the espresso machine.
Hills Bros. begins packing roasted coffee in vacuum tins eventually ending local roasting shops and coffee mills. A Japanese-American chemist named Satori Kato from Chicago invents the first soluble “instant” coffee.

German coffee importer Ludwig Roselius turns some ruined coffee beans over to researchers, who perfected the process of removing caffeine from the beans without destroying the flavor. He sells it under the name Sanka. Sanka is introduced in the United States in 1923.

George Constant Washington an English chemist living in Guatemala, is interested in a powdery condensation forming on the spout of his silver coffee flask. After checking into it, he creates the first mass-produced instant coffee which is his brand name called Red E Coffee.

Prohibition goes into effect in United States. Coffee sales suddenly increase.
Brazil asked Nestle to help find a solution to their coffee surpluses so the Nestle Company comes up with freeze-dried coffee. Nestle also made Nescafe and introduced it to Switzerland.

    Other Interesting Coffee Tidbits

Today the US imports 70 percent of the world’s coffee crop.
During W.W.II, American soldiers were issued instant Maxwell House coffee in their ration kits.

In Italy, Achilles Gaggia perfects his espresso machine. The name Cappuccino comes from the resemblance of its color to the robes of the monks of the Capuchin order.

One week before Woodstock, the Manson family murders coffee heiress Abigail Folger as she visits with her friend Sharon Tate in the home of filmmaker Roman Polanski.

    Starbuck’s Hits the Coffee World

Starbucks opens its first store in Seattle’s Pike Place public market in 1971. This creates madness over fresh-roasted whole bean coffee.
Coffee finally becomes the world’s most popular beverage. More than 450 billion cups are sold each year by 1995.

    The Current Coffee Trends

Now in the 21st century we have many different styles, grinds, and flavors of coffee. We have really come a long way even with our coffee making machines. There’s no sign of coffee consumption decreasing. Researchers are even finding many health benefits to drinking coffee. Drink and enjoy!

  • Brew the Best Coffee With a French Press

Comments Off on Brew the Best Coffee With a French Press
    April 9, 2021 /  Food

If you want to taste coffee in a whole new way, try making it with a French Press coffee pot. Most people are used to their coffee being brewed in an electric, drip coffee maker a la Mr. Coffee. This method has one flaw in the brewing process that takes away from the true essence of coffee: the paper filter. The paper retains some of the coffee essence, and deprives you of coffee’s true potential. Granted, we cannot simply dump ground coffee into a cup, pour in hot water and start drinking; the grounds must be separated from the liquid that is consumed. Coffee grounds are bitter, gritty, and stick to your teeth. The French Press method removes the grounds, but lets all of the flavor of the coffee come to life.

Although French Presses come in various shapes, sizes, materials and manufacturers, the Chambord model by Bodum is a good example of a ubiquitous style found throughout the industry . The handle attaches to the holder for the glass carafe. The carafe holds the coffee and hot water. The carafe looks like a beaker from a chemistry lab, with a spout for easy pouring. The “pressing” apparatus of the French Press sits atop the beaker. It consists of a dome which covers the coffee as it brews. The plunger is a skinny metal post with a plastic ball at the top that slides through a small hole in the middle of the dome. At the bottom of the post is the filter, a wire mesh disk.

A quick note about ingredients. A cup of coffee is made of coffee beans and water. Therefore, start with freshly roasted whole beans ground just before brewing. Whole beans maintain their freshness twice as long as ground coffee. The water is just as critical: make sure it is cold, fresh, and filtered.

Let’s assume a 12 oz. cup is being prepared. Using 1-1 ½ tablespoons of whole beans, set your grinder to coarse. This produces the largest grounds possible, and allows water to extract the maximum flavor from the coffee. It also reduces the amount of smaller grounds that will end up in the bottom of the cup.

Dump the ground coffee into the carafe. Before adding hot water, take a moment to inhale the aroma of the dry coffee. The aroma of freshly ground coffee will take you to a better place.

Next, heat your water (12 ounces). The optimal brewing temperature is 195-205 F. If you don’t have a thermometer, simply bring your water to a boil and wait thirty seconds.

Pour the water into the beaker and stir for a couple of seconds. This will agitate the mixture and allow the coffee to brew more completely. Place the plunger apparatus on the carafe, but do not depress. Set a timer for four minutes. This amount of time allows all of the flavor and oils to be extracted perfectly from the coffee.

At four minutes press down the plunger completely, then pour the freshly brewed coffee into your mug.
Look at the coffee before adding any condiments. The coffee will appear more complex (richer) than if it were brewed in a drip coffee maker. There will even be a thin layer of crema (light brown froth) resting on top of the liquid. Put your nose close to the cup and breathe in the aroma. The smell is stronger, more pure than if the coffee passed through a paper filter. Taste the coffee before adding sugar etc. When you reach the end of the cup you will notice some residue. These are simply micro-grounds that made it through the mesh filter.

You can purchase French Presses that double as travel mugs. There are also double-walled glass, and stainless steel thermal units as well. Some are beautifully crafted and look like museum pieces. The reason for this is that coffee made in this manner is the height of the coffee brewing experience. So, if you love coffee, you owe it to yourself to purchase a French Press and make the best-tasting coffee in the easiest possible way. Prices start at around 13 dollars for a two cup (12 oz.) unit.
